New Gallery & Studio
on show at Tommy Martin's gallery in Askham
At the end of August 2010 I opened the doors to my new gallery and studio in Askham, Cumbria.
Coinciding with the gallery opening was the first outing for a range of new prints, including another two in the very striking 30"x20" aluminium-mounted format. More about those when I've added them to my online store..
Holly House Barn
Five miles South of Penrith, and on the Eastern edge of the Lake District National Park, the picturesque village of Askham has been the centre of my universe some years now. As a large portion of my landscape portfolio was taken with a few miles of Askham, Holly House Barn, right in middle of the village seemed a perfect place to house my gallery. See the Gallery Page for a map.
It is also, rather conveniently, right next door to the Queens Head Inn that I run with with my partner Katharine.

Gallery Opening Night
As well as my own work, including the regular addition of new prints, a second room will house shows by visiting artists that will change every month or so. We've already got a few artists and photographers booked in for the space which I'm very excited about. More about very soon…
Meanwhile, my gallery is open to public Thursday-Sunday, 12pm-5pm, (viewing by appointment Monday-Wednesday). I'm here, on duty at the gallery and working in my office and studio most days that we're open.
The Studio
The studio side of the Barn is work in progress. I'm actively looking to take on some more commercial work, including product and food photography, and the cavern of a space that I have available upstairs in the barn is a perfect place to shoot. The eventual aim is to have a fully equipped studio, with a kitchen for food shoots, for use by myself and available to hire to other photographers. More about that soon, too…

"Seasons" Series on Sale

This is a series of images of a lone tree through the seasons. The series took me a year to shoot, using the same lens, from exactly the same spot in Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter.
They are being sold as a set of four individually mounted and framed photographs. The first set are already sold and we've just hung the second set in the Village Bakery cafe.

New Work Show Now Open
An exhibition of my new work opened with a very successful private viewing at my gallery last night.
Feedback on the new Super Gloss, aluminum bonded print has been fantastic (as have sales). There will definitely some more work in that format coming soon.
The show is ongoing at my gallery at the Village Bakery in Melmerby and we'll be mixing in some of last year's favourites in with the new prints.

Ullswater Rays
I'm busily working away on a whole stack of prints fro my New Work Show, opening at my gallery on August 22nd, 2009 (nb: not 8th as previously announced). All very exciting.
The image on the left is Ullswater Rays, which will be the centerpiece of show. It's going to be a Fuji Super Gloss 30"x20" print, mounted on aluminum. So far I've only seen a couple of proofs, but I'm very pleased with how it's going and very excited about seeing the finished product.

The Times
Tommy Martin's "Ullswater Calm" Featured in the Times
The Times newspaper last Saturday (feb 21st 2009) featured my perennially popular Ullswater Calm, which was nice. It was on the centre pages of the Weekend section and came out remarkably well, given the limitations of newspaper print, so all in all I'm pretty pleased with myself.
Limited Edition Prints of Ullswater Calm are still available online, and at my gallery, but selling fast...

A Slightly Belated Happy New Year
This New Year of ours seems rather keen to get underway. The last two weeks have been as busy any of last year and I have sneaking suspicion that this is just the beginning.
I'm currently restocking my gallery after Christmas cleared out all of my spare stock, and starting to think about getting ready for shows at two other galleries that will be opening in the next couple of months (dates and details to follow).
We've had some fantastic proper winter weather and light over the last month and I'm working on a huge backlog of new images that I'm very excited about.
Commercial photo work is picking up as well, along with quite a few new design jobs. Oh yes, and I'm moving house in a couple of weeks...
