About Tommy Martin
Tommy Martin started as a photographer's assistant in London in 1991. He has spent the last 19 years working as a freelance photographer, designer, illustrator and filmmaker.
Since 2004 he has been living and working in the village of Askham, on the Eastern edge of the Lake District National Park. The dramatic terrain and weather of the Lakes and the Eden Valley have inspired a passion for landscape photography.
Martin's atmospheric and evocative landscape work has been widely published newspapers, magazines and websites including The Times (UK), Photo District News (USA), Photo Art (Czech), and features in Digital Photographer Magazine (UK), DigitalFoto (Spain) and Cumbria Life (UK).
In 2007 his work Stay on the Path was selected for inclusion in the 'How We Are' exhibition at the Tate Gallery in London.
In the summer of 2008 Tommy Martin published a collection of his landscape work in a book called Cumbria: Seasons of Mist, coinciding with the first public exhibition of his landscape work, held at the Village Bakery, Melmerby. With the success of this show he was invited to establish his own gallery at the Village Bakery.
In 2010 Tommy Martin opened a new gallery and studio at Holly House Barn in Askham.
In 2012 Tommy Martin's gallery moved to a new, permanent home at the Upfront Gallery, near Penrith.
